An open letter to Dianne Feinstein

From: The Executive Board of The Burbank Democratic Club

To: Senator Feinstein,

We wish to state with the greatest clarity that we can muster out absolute disappointment in you and your work of the last few years. You in no way represent us.

You failed us in the Alito nomination. Oh, you voted against, but you could have joined the filibuster, and you did not. Do not think that we do not see you taking both sides on that and so many other battles.

Your most recent betrayal in your support of Judge Mulkasey is classic of sophistic nonsense, “he should not be expected to need to define water boarding as torture in order to get the job”. Just horrific. It is the barbarian nations that engage in torture. But thanks to George Bush and your utter lack of a moral compass, America has joined the ranks of Ordinary Nations; you will not feature well in the history of these days for your failures.

How you could support the nomination of Judge Leslie Southwick to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit—a man with a clear record of condoning racism and gender discrimination—is an enduring mystery to us.

Your complicity in the Orwellian named “Patriot Act” is a black stain on your record and will not soon be forgotten.

And now you propose to grant amnesty to the Telecom companies for their complicity in the criminal shredding of out Fourth Amendment rights? If you are hoping to gain their donations to fund your next campaign, be assured you have lost our support. Every member of our club that will work to defeat you in the primary. Do not for a moment believe that we do not realize that the true beneficiary of this amnesty is George Bush and his administration. An administration that you have a duty to expose, but choose instead to protect.

We also note your betrayal of the Party in your false endorsement of Ned Lamont, when in fact you worked to elect a non-Democrat for no better reason than that Lieberman was already a member of the Senate Club. We suggest that you consider joining Lieberman and leave the party, as you do not serve us or our beliefs, our aspirations or our agenda, in any way.

Bush Hates Everyone

Democrats to offer Bush budget compromise
Bush has signed into law one of the 12 spending bills for the fiscal year that began on October 1. That one funds the Defense Department's non-combat activities and weighs in at a hefty $460 billion.

But bills funding programs ranging from bridge repairs to federal law enforcement and health care for the poor and elderly are languishing...

Taking the myth of non-partisanship to another level

Calitics California Politics Blog.
Turning free speech and the notion of a military defending American Constitutional rights completely on its head, a Veteran's Day parade in Long Beach banned antiwar veteran's groups from appearing on Saturday.

A participation application filed by Iraq Veterans Against the War, Veterans for Peace and Military Families Speak Out was turned down because organizers want Saturday's parade free from politics.

"They do not fit the spirit of the parade, the spirit being one of gratitude for what the veterans have done," said Martha Thuente, coordinator for the nonprofit Veterans Day Parade Committee.

"We do not want groups of a political nature, advocating the troops' withdrawal from Iraq," she added.

Now, you don't have an inalienable right to march in a parade. But Veterans For Peace WAS allowed to march in the same parade last year. Not to mention the fact that plenty of the groups marching on Saturday have advocated an explicit political agenda in the past. The VFW and the American Legion have made plenty of public pro-war statements over the years, that would seemingly conflict with this expressed belief that only "nonpartisan" groups be allowed to show their pride in wearing the uniform.

No More Torture - What I Sent today

I just signed a petition to ask the presidential candidates to disavow torture. There wasn't enough room for a full comment so I just sent my acronym.

Vote next year to end the spin. We neither torture, lie, oppress, nor steal.

The America I want to live in is
A Moral, Enlightened Republic In Cooperative Affinity
with the rest of the world
as well as with its own citizens and residents.

The petition came from Human Rights First via Democrats.com

WGA Strike

Not surprisingly, the Writers Guild Blog is well written.

United Hollywood
And no, we're not all left leaning pinkos. For those of you who know me, this message is coming to you from a political conservative who has finally become fed up with the culture of greed that is not only gradually polarizing our nation, but is seeing the unity of this great country slowly come apart at the seams.

I write this letter to you asking for your support of the WGA and this strike. If you are in Los Angeles, I am a strike captain who will be leading morning picket lines at the front gate at Universal Studios. If you have an hour to march with us in unity, I welcome you to stop by and say hello or honk your horn.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. Peace to all of you.

Warmest regards,

George Hickenlooper

Horrible Numbers For Re-Animated Dirty Tricks

Calitics:: Horrible Numbers For Re-Animated Dirty Tricks
While the turnout model for a June non-Presidential primary is unknown, this should cheer people who don't want to see California's electoral votes stolen by an unbalanced dirty trick.

When voters are read the title and summary of the proposed initiative, a solid majority opposes the measure - 53 percent would vote NO if the election were held today and only one out of five voters (22%) support the initiative while a quarter of the electorate (25%) is currently undecided. This is one of the lowest levels of support we have ever seen in our polling for a statewide initiative in California.
